How To Integrate SEO Keywords Into Your Website’s Content

SEO Keywords are very important for ensuring that your website is properly indexed in search engines like Google. They also help to put your website in the relevant keyword searches in these search engines. When integrated properly in your website’s content, these SEO keywords can deliver great results, and can ensure that your website gets targeted visitors. Naturally, this will mean that the possibilities of increasing the revenues from your website are higher.

Let us look at how we can integrate these SEO keywords into your website’s content.

What are SEO Keywords?

SEO Keywords are those words and phrases that are used by people to search for your website’s content. For example, if your company makes and sells table cloths, then the first set of keywords / key phrases would be ‘table cloths’.

You can read more about this topic on my article: SEO for Websites. This article also talks about the basics of SEO for websites.

SEO Web Content

SEOSEO web content primarily means content for the web that has been optimized for search engines. This essentially involves the process of writing your website’s content in such a manner that it includes all the keywords within it.

However, care should be taken to write the content in a very natural and organic manner. If you add too many of the keywords, or use your keywords too many times within the content, then your content will appear to be ‘stuffed’ and will not rank well in search engine results.

It is a general rule of thumb that one should have not more than 3 – 5% of keywords within the content. This means that for every 100 words of content on your website, anywhere between 3 to 5 of them should be your targeted SEO keywords. Again, (and I cannot stress the point enough), these keywords should appear very naturally within this content. They should be a part of the sentence and content flow – and not seem as if they have been purposefully used / inserted in the content.

Also, it is important that your web page’s main keywords appear in the first and the last bits of your website’s content for that page.

Other Things to Consider

Apart from including these keywords in your content, there are many other things that one has to consider while writing the content. Lets look at them one by one.

1. Web Page Title

Your web page’s title should contain the main SEO keywords. The title of the page appears in your browser’s top bar (shown in the picture below) and can help with the indexing process for search engines.

When the page shows up in Google’s results, the Title is shown prominently in the results, while the description appears below the title.

2. In Content Headings

Within the content as well, you should use proper headings that contain your keywords. This will serve not only to highlight your keywords within the content, but will also help in creating an article which is easy to scan / read for your site’s visitors.

3. META Tags in the HTML

These are the tags which are used in the HTML code of the website. The main META tags to consider over here are: title, description, and keywords.

The title tag content will be the same as the page title, and the content of the keywords tag will include a comma separated list of your web page’s keywords and key phrases. The description tag should contain a sentence or two that aptly describes the contents of the web page.

Including the right content in these META tags will make the content easy to read and understand for the search engines’ bots that regularly crawl your website.

4. Site Maps

Site Map

Site maps are an excellent way of ensuring that your site’s content is indexed and crawled by the search engines’ bots. There are many tools available within WordPress that make this process pretty simple. (And I am going to talk about these tools in the following posts.. so stay tuned!)

WordPress and SEO

WordPress also has a number of features and plugins which can help you integrate these rules of SEO within your content.

WordPress Plugin for SEO

WordPress has a variety of plugins that help make all of the above-mentioned things easy to create and manage. I always recommend and use the Platinum SEO Pack plugin for SEO, and the Google XML Sitemaps plugin for creating sitemaps. (And yes, separate posts about these plugins are coming up soon…)

WordPress Categories and Tags for SEO

You can also leverage the power of WordPress’ built-in facility for creating categories and tags to integrate your website’s SEO keywords into your content, and to highlight those keywords in your site’s content.

You can read more about it in my article on  WordPress Categories and Tags.

In Conclusion…

While on the surface it appears as if writing SEO content and integrating SEO keywords is a very difficult task, I assure you it gets better with practice. Although it may seem difficult at first, it is not impossible.

In order to ensure that your website’s content delivers the best results, it is very important to integrate these SEO keywords into your site’s content and to do so in a proper manner.
